A campaign to build the ohel
Build the Ohel
Be a partner in building a fitting ohel over the holy tziyun of Rabbi Levi Yitzchok ben Sarah Sasha of Berditchev, the Defender of Klal Yisroel.
Why the ohel matters
Yidden from around the world come to daven at the tziyun of the holy Berditchever, and above all on his yahrzeit, 25 Tishrei. Every day, the names sent to us are mentioned there in tefillah.
The ohel is where they pour out their hearts. Building it properly means every Yid who comes, and every name that is sent, has a worthy place before the Defender of Klal Yisroel.

Davening inside the ohel today
How it works
Write the names and your requests, and they will be brought to the holy tziyun of Rabbi Levi Yitzchok of Berditchev and mentioned there in tefillah.
Names and details are kept fully confidential.
It is customary to give tzedakah, a “pidyon nefesh”, together with a kvitel, in the merit of those being prayed for. The merit of tzedakah joins the tefillah at the holy tziyun.

The discovery
In 2020, while the world stood still, Rabbi Thaler used the quiet to lay underfloor heating in the ohel, so that the stone floor would not be so bitterly cold for those who come to daven through the Ukrainian winter. About five feet down, the workers struck an old brick wall. Rabbi Thaler stopped the work and asked gedolei Yisroel how to proceed.
Digging slowly, under their guidance, revealed the original ohel, built more than two hundred years ago: plastered brick walls, a doorway, a stone bench and a patterned tile floor. And then the four matzeivos of Rabbi Levi Yitzchok and his three holy sons, side by side.
Until that day, everyone who came to daven was standing directly above the holy graves. That is why the ohel must be built now: to restore the original tziyun, and to give the some 100,000 Yidden who came every year before the war a fitting place to daven, without standing over the kevarim.
The discovery was reported by Chabad.org: “Discovering the Real Resting Place of Rabbi Levi Yitzchok of Berdichev” (July 2020).
